Connecting on a New Level

Thursday was the last lunch for the Lubbock Youth Pastors Network in 2009.??
In some ways, for me, it was a very typical meeting.? We gather, introduce ourselves, have lunch, talk and pray.? Yet while a normal meeting, for me, it triggered something new that’s hard for me to label, but I’m going to try.
We have around forty youth workers in our Facebook group and i’d guess around thirty have been able to attend a lunch at one time or another but typically we have around twenty people who can make it.
This month there were about fifteen of us. Since? it was a smaller group,? I called an audible when it was time for? prayer time came. Normally we break into groups of three to five and just pray for each other.? This time I asked if people would share with the group and we’d have a group prayer time.
This prayer time was memorable and different because for the first time, I knew everyone in the room at some level. I have spent time with everyone at different times and instead of praying for colleagues, I was praying with and for friends. ? Friends who are all on a common path and have a shared purpose in life, to love God and to walk with students as they seek God.
At one point, I was overwhelmed with the things a few of them are facing and I began to cry for them as we interceded for each other.? It was a beautiful time of corporate prayer as believers from across the spectrum of Christianity prayed for and with each other.
It’s a blessing that I get to constantly wave the “God is more glorified when churches are more unified” flag. It’s a blessing and this week I got to experience being part of that unity and love in action.
